Senior guard Hunter Hannuksela scored a school-record 50 points as Mesabi East edged Chisholm 89-87 in late high school boys basketball action Tuesday in Chisholm.

Hannuksela, who drained six 3-pointers, is now just 43 points away from 2,000 for his career.

While Hannuksela provided the bulk of the scoring, teammate Cody Fallstrom provided the last-second heroics, grabbing a rebound and putting it back in with one second remaining as the Giants earned their first win of the season.

Brayden Leffel added 22 points for Mesabi East (1-7), which was down by as many as nine points in the second half.

Jude Sundquist had 33 points to lead the Bluestreaks (5-4).

Bode Magnuson had 27 points and Alex Morgan added 25 as the host Patriots handed the Rebels their first loss of the season in overtime in another late game Tuesday.

Sam Rysavy chipped in 18 points for Pequot Lakes (9-1).

Mason Olson scored 31 points and Brady Watrin added 30 for the Rebels (8-1) but it wasn’t enough as this game was close throughout.

DeVauntaye Parker had 20 points and Brock Thornton had 16 to lead the fourth-seeded Mustangs to victory over the fifth-seeded Spartans in their Wisconsin Division 1 playoff opener Tuesday in Menomonie.

Menomonie (11-10) advances to play at top-seeded River Falls (17-2) at 7 p.m. Friday in the regional semifinals.

Draden Jensen and Kaden Kimmes were the lone players to score in double figures with 11 points apiece to lead Superior (7-9).
