The Dallas Wings on Wednesday waived Port Wing native Megan Gustafson, who was trying to make the WNBA team following a terrific four-year run at Iowa, capped by Gustafson winning several national player of the year awards this past season.
Gustafson averaged 2.6 points and three rebounds a game in the preseason for the Wings, who open the regular season Friday.
At South Shore School in Port Wing, Gustafson set a state prep record by scoring 3,229 career points. She then headed to Iowa and produced four seasons that were so productive that the university already has announced it will retire her No. 10 jersey next winter.
In 2018-19, Gustafson averaged 27.8 points, tops in NCAA Division I, to go with 13.4 rebounds as the Hawkeyes reached the Elite Eight.
She was selected by Dallas in the second round of April's WNBA draft.
