Hannah Norlin had 23 points and nine rebounds as Wisconsin-Superior held on for a 72-71 victory over Carthage College in the Yellowjackets' season opener Friday night at the St. Norbert College Classic in De Pere, Wis.
Norlin added three steals, three assists and two blocks, while teammate Eva Reinertson of Duluth added 21 points and 10 rebounds for UWS.
UWS, which never trailed, led 61-46 going into the fourth quarter before Carthage outscored the Yellowjackets 25-11 the rest of the way.
Rachel Szydlowski had 16 points to lead the Lady Reds (1-1). Her layup with 3:01 to play pulled Carthage to within a point, but the Lady Reds could get no closer, with a 3-pointer at the buzzer trimming the final margin.
• Melanie Schneider had 16 points as Wisconsin-Oshkosh rolled to a 71-44 victory over St. Scholastica in the Saints' season opener at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic.
Erin Vande Zande added 10 as 12 players scored for the Titans (2-0).
Mariah Pearson and Amber Smith had nine points apiece to lead the Saints (0-1), who shot 33 percent from the field and 25 percent from 3-point range.
