The Mankato MoonDogs scored four runs in the sixth inning to down the Duluth Huskies 6-3 in Northwoods League baseball Saturday before 609 at Wade Stadium.
The MoonDogs had four hits in the inning, keyed by Adam Fogel’s two-run single followed by Alex Baeza’s two-run double.
Baeza finished with three RBIs while Fogel and Matthew Higgins added two hits apiece for Mankato (7-6 second half). Five pitchers combined to hold Duluth to just three runs despite the Huskies having nine hits and eight walks. Dalton Mesaris got the pitching win and Vince Reilly earned the save as the Huskies left 13 men on base and struck out seven times.
University of Texas product Peyton Powell continues to have an impact after being a late arrival, collecting three hits, while Northwoods League All-Star Ambren Voitik added two hits for Duluth (7-4), which had its two-game winning streak snapped. The Huskies had rallied in the eighth inning of the previous two games but were held scoreless the final three innings Saturday.
The same teams rematch at 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Wade Stadium before taking three days off for the Northwoods League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday in Mankato, Minnesota.
