Freshmen Jack Blesch and Kolby Gartner earned pitching wins as St. Thomas snapped St. Scholastica’s eight-game winning streak with a 5-2 and 1-0 nonconference sweep Tuesday in a seven-inning college baseball doubleheader before 68 at Wade Stadium.

Blesch allowed two runs on four hits in five innings in the first game, with two strikeouts and no walks. Avery Lehman had a triple and two runs for St. Thomas while Jake Schelonka had a two-run double in the first innings for St. Scholastica. Junior pitcher Grant Taival dropped to 5-2 for the Saints, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in seven innings, with a strikeout and walk.

Gartner allowed three hits in 4 1/3 innings to lead the Tommies (25-5) to the shutout in the rematch.

Kyle Halverson singled to center field to score Charlie Bartholom with the lone run in the second inning. Sophomore T.J. Martin took the loss for CSS (17-7) despite allowing just two hits and one run in seven innings, with two strikeouts and four walks.

It was the final NCAA Division III regular-season meeting between the programs as St. Thomas moves to Division I next season.
