Four Waterloo pitchers held Duluth to a combined six hits and continued fielding errors cost the Huskies in a 5-2 Northwoods League baseball loss Sunday before 1,985 fans at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa.
Bucks starter Landon Simpson struck out six in 5⅓ innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. Closer Adam Dian struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth save.
Waterloo (11-9) scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings and totaled 11 hits off four Huskies pitchers. Patrick McGrath dropped to 0-3 for the Huskies (6-14), who fell nine games behind North Division leader Willmar after being swept in the two-game series.
The Huskies committed three more errors Sunday after making two in a 4-3 loss at Willmar late Saturday. A three-run eighth-inning rally in that game wasn’t enough for Duluth. Keach Ballard drove in two runs to give him 10 for the season but Dian struck out all four batters he faced to save the victory for starter Adam Bray, who allowed two hits in six innings and struck out nine.
