Baseball: Huskies fall to rally by Lunkers

For the second straight evening, the Duluth Huskies had an outburst of offense Sunday at Wade Stadium.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers chose not to repeat their performance from the night before.

A day after getting shut out, the Lunkers found their offense and rallied for a 10-8 win over the host Huskies in a Northwoods League game before 841 fans at Wade Stadium.

Duluth (5-4 second half, 22-18 overall) took a 7-3 lead after four innings, but Brainerd (7-3, 21-24) scored six runs in the top of the fifth, thanks in part to Vince Bruno's three-RBI triple.

Mark Threlkeld had four hits -- including a double and a home run -- and drove in three runs for the Huskies in a losing effort.

Joe Willman (1-0) picked up the victory in relief for Brainerd. Reliever Conner Hulse (1-3) took the loss for Duluth.

The entire Northwoods League has today off in advance of Tuesday's All-Star Game in Eau Claire. Pitchers Robbie Collier and Ben Hughes, first baseman Cody Asche and outfielder Casey Lytle will be Duluth's representatives at the game.
