Auto racing: Northern Nationals on tap in Superior

SUPERIOR — Gondik Law Speedway in Superior will host a busy week of racing Thursday through Saturday with its 34th annual Northern Nationals.

The event features complete shows each night with the Northern Renegade Winged Sprints headlining Thursday’s show and Late Models topping the weekend action.

Top prize for Late Models is $2,500-plus, $1,800 for Modifieds, $1,200 for Super Stocks and $800 for Midwest Modifieds, plus more with incentives.

Defending champions include Pat Doar (Late Models), Jody Bellefeuille (Modifieds), Kevin Burdick (Super Stocks) and David Swearingen (Midwest Modifieds).

Grandstand admission is $15 for those 13 and over, with 12 and under free. Friday and Saturday is $25. Thursday and Friday nights feature DJ entertainment after the races.

After temperatures cooled Labor Day evening in the Twin Ports, Thursday will heat up, with a high of 85 degrees. Friday’s forecast calls for potential rain, but Saturday is expected to be sunny, with highs around 70 for the weekend.
