A seventh-place finish was enough to vault Hermantown's Darrell Nelson to a WISSOTA Modifieds track championship Sunday at Proctor Speedway, the final point night of the track's season.
Nelson came in with the points lead, with Duluth's Paul Wrazidlo in striking distance. Wrazidlo, though, couldn't finish the race after encountering trouble late, clearing the way for a Nelson coronation.
Superior's Dan Kingsley finished fifth in the Midwest Modifieds, but that was enough for a track championship. Kingsley ended with 10 more points than second-place Tyler Vernon.
Kevin Burdick was the Super Stocks champ.
Familiar face Harry Hanson of Eveleth came in one spot ahead of Terry Lillo in the Late Models finale, allowing Hanson to claim another Proctor title, his last at the speedway - Hanson is set to retire from late-model racing.
