SUPERIOR — Hermantown stock car driver Darrell Nelson started on the pole and took advantage of it, leading every lap of the 40-lap Late Model feature on the third and final day of the 34th annual Northern Nationals Saturday, Sept. 10, at Gondik Law Speedway.

Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wisconsin, and Kevin Eder of Ashland finished second and third, respectively.

Nelson, who once again proved he is almost impossible to beat in Superior when given the No. 1 starting spot, was denied the sweep as he finished second in his heat to Eder.

Jody Bellefeuille of Duluth earned the sweep in Modifieds while Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minnesota, earned top honors in Super Stocks.

Andrew Inman of Canyon earned the sweep in Midwest Modifieds. It was a crazy finale, with only 11 cars finishing the 20-lap feature; 12 cars didn’t finish and two were disqualified.

Friday’s Day 2 of the Northern Nationals was rained out.

Jamey Ogston of Duluth won the Northern Renegades Traditional Sprints feature on Thursday’s opening night.

Shane Howell of Buffalo, Minnesota, took top honors in Midwest Modifieds, Nick Traynor of Barron, Wisconsin, won in Street Stocks, Nate Rose of Duluth won in Pure Stocks and Justin Schelitzche of Waconia, Minn., took top honors in Hornets.

Superior also hosted the Showdown in Soup Town Wednesday, Sept. 7, a special event featuring Midwest Modifieds and Super Stocks in the same race.

Midwest Modified driver Brady Uotinen of Superior charged up from the ninth starting spot to win the 20-lap feature, with D.J. Keeler of Superior taking second and David Simpson of Thunder Bay finishing third.
