The Ashland School District is looking for a new athletic director after Linda Olson resigned last week.
Olson spent one year as AD in Ashland - a year marked by controversy over guidelines she implemented concerning cheering at sports events.
Those guidelines, based on rules of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, banned several longtime cheers which Olson said were unsportsmanlike. Cheers aimed at opponents with phrases like "sieve," "overrated" and "airball" were banned.
Under the WIAA and Ashland rules "you can't turn your backs, you can't single out an opponent, you can't single out a team, you can't say anything negative," Olson told FOX 21 News in March.
District officials said Olson is leaving to take a position with another district, but declined to give specific details. The district hopes to have the position filled by the start of the school year.
