Area high school basketball: Marquardt scores 1,000th point as Beavers top Jaguars

Jordan Marquardt scored his 1,000th career point as the Hanson boys' basketball team topped Corsica/Stickney 60-42 Thursday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Jordan Marquardt scored his 1,000th career point as the Hanson boys’ basketball team topped Corsica/Stickney 60-42 Thursday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
Taylor Nichols added 14 points and eight rebounds for Hanson, while Jacob Paradeis chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Beavers shot 25-of-47 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line, while grabbing 32 rebounds.
The Jaguars were led by Eli Van Roekel with 13 points, while Austin Tilton added 11 points.
Hanson (15-4) plays Scotland Monday in Scotland, while CS (11-8) plays Parkston Monday in Parkston.

Wagner 57, Platte-Geddes 54
WAGNER - Derek Soukup scored a game-high 20 points for the Wagner boys’ basketball team in a 57-54 victory over Platte-Geddes Thursday.
Trajan Holiday added 18 points, Noah St. Pierre had nine assists and Soukup brought down eight rebounds for Wagner, which was 22-of-47 from the field and 6-6 from the line.
Carter Dykstra scored a team-best 18 points and Coby Johnson added 15 points for the Black Panthers, who were 20-of-43 from the field and 12-of-17 from the line.
Wagner (9-10) hosts Marty Indian Monday, while Platte-Geddes (13-6) hosts Gregory Thursday.

Andes Central 63
The Kimball/White Lake boys’ basketball team topped Andes Central Thursday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
The WiLdKats were led by Eathen Gaulke with 31 points, while Riley Talbott finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. KWL shot 18-of-46 from the field and 14-of-29 from the free-throw line.
The Eagles were led by Zach Cournoyer with 17 points, while Brian Bruguier added 16 points and Joe Evans finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
The WiLdKats (5-14) and Eagles (6-10) each start district play March 3.

Wolsey-Wessington topped Avon 64-32 in boys’ high school basketball action Thursday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
The Pirates were led by Brandon Kocmich and Devin Tolsma with eight points each. Avon shot 13-of-42 in the loss.
The Warbirds were led by Larenzo Williams with a game-high 26 points.
The Pirates (7-11) play Freeman today in Freeman, while WW (16-4) plays the first round of districts March 3.

HOWARD - Flandreau topped Howard 82-39 in boys’ high school basketball action Thursday in Howard.
The Tigers (0-20) were led by David Weidler with 16 points, and the team shot 15-of-44 from the field and 5-of-11 from the free-throw line.
Flandreau (11-8) plays De Smet at home Saturday, while Howard begins district play March 3.

MILLER - The Sunshine Bible Academy boys’ basketball team beat Dakota Christian 69-34 Monday.
Drew McClain and Brian LaDue each scored 12 points for SBA.
Zach De Lange scored a game-high 15 points and Michael Maas had 12 rebounds for Dakota Christian, which was 10-of-48 from the field and 12-of-20 from the line.
SBA (7-11) hosts Hitchcock-Tulare Feb. 28, while the Cadets (3-16) hosts Colome today in New Holland.

Viborg-Hurley 82, Marion 47
MARION - Jacob Wuertz recorded 22 points and nine rebounds as the Marion boys’ basketball team fell 82-47 to Viborg-Hurley Thursday.
Nick Gortmaker added 16 points for the Bears, which were 20-of-52 from the field and 6-of-17 from the line.
VH’s Jack Huether scored 20 points.
Marion (3-14) plays at Beresford Monday.

Girls’ basketball
Wagner 70, Platte-Geddes 58
WAGNER - Ali Kuca scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Wagner girls’ basketball team to a 70-58 win over Platte-Geddes Thursday in Wagner.
Emily Brunsing added 22 points and seven rebounds for the Red Raiders (11-9), while Gina Soukup chipped in with 15. Wagner shot 26-of-51 from the field and 15-of-22 from the free-throw line, while outrebounding PG 30-26.
The Black Panthers (7-13) were led by Josie DeGroot with 20 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Brianna Erickson added 13 points, while Heidi Ringling and Alexis Peterson added 11 and 10 points, respectively. PG shot 24-of-57 from the field and 5-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Wagner starts regionals Tuesday, while PG opens district play.

Burke/South Central 42, Gregory 21
GREGORY - The Burke/South Central girls’ basketball team topped Gregory 42-21 Thursday in Gregory.
The Cougars (11-9) were led by Allison Sebern with 16 points, while Sierra Votaw chipped in with eight rebounds. BSC shot 29 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line, while outrebounding the Gorillas 41-30.
Gregory (2-17) was led by Briana Leber with 12 points. The Gorillas shot 38 percent from the field and 40 percent from the free-throw line.
The Gorillas start district play Monday at a site to be determined, while BSC will have a bye in the first round of districts.

MENNO - Three players scored in double figures as Menno defeated Andes Central 54-10 Thursday in high school girls’ basketball action.
Kylee Kessler had 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double, while Abby and Christina Herrboldt each added 13 points in the win. Menno was 22-of-53 from the field, 9-of-17 from the line and had 31 rebounds.
Beulah Black Cloud had eight points and Shaylin Stotz added eight rebounds for the Eagles.
Menno finishes the regular season 4-16, while Andes Central finishes 3-17.

MARION - Abby Hora had 20 points and scored her 1,000th point as Viborg-Hurley beat Marion in high school girls’ basketball action Thursday.
Marion was led by Devin Nelson with 14 points and Briana Davis with 11. The Bears were 11-of-49 from the field and 4-of-10 from the line.
The Bears (6-14) plays in districts Monday, while VH (15-4) hosts Flandreau Indian today.
Sunshine Bible Academy 42, Dakota Christian 39
MILLER - Tricia Wilken scored 16 points to help the Sunshine Bible Academy girls’ basketball team beat Dakota Christian 42-39 Thursday.
Dakota Christian was led by Brooklyn and Ahna VanderPol. with 12 and 11 points. Kennedy Muckey chipped in with eight rebounds. The Cadets were 15-of-48 from the field and 9-of-16 from the free-throw line.
SBA ends its regular season 9-11, while DC ends its regular season 12-8.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 42, Parkston 27
PARKSTON - Megan Bultsma and Payleen O’Day each scored 15 points to help the Mount Vernon/Plankinton girls’ basketball team beat Parkston 42-27 Thursday.
Bultsma also had nine rebounds and four steals, while Becca Glanzer scored nine points. The Titans were 17-of-51 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Parkston was led by Sam Herrold, who scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sadie Schoenfelder chipped in with seven points and five steals, while Halli Heisinger had five points. The Trojans were 10-of-51 from the field and 7-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Parkston ends its regular season 7-13, while MVP finishes the regular season 14-5.

Scotland 54,
Tripp-Delmont/Armour 26
SCOTLAND - Carley Skorepa scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help the Scotland girls’ basketball team defeat Tripp-Delmont/Armour 54-26 Thursday.
Jessica Thum chipped in with 10 points, two rebounds and one assist, while Hannah Mogck had nine point and nine rebounds. The Highlanders were 19-of-60 from the field and 5-of-19 from the free-throw line.
TDA was led by Becca Brown, tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. Erica Koster chipped in with six points and eight rebounds for the Nighthawks, who were 9-of-50 from the field.
Scotland ends its regular season 7-13. TDA finishes its regular season 5-15 and plays Platte-Geddes in the first round of the District 11B tournament Monday in Platte.
