Four days after former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez deposited $15,000 into a Belle Glade, Fla., manâs account in April 2013, a gun that police later recovered in Massachusetts during the Odin Lloyd homicide investigation was purchased from a True Value Hardware store in Belle Glade, testimony at Hernandezâs murder trial Monday revealed.
Prosecutors say Hernandezâs accomplices carried the .22 caliber weapon the night of the shooting. The gun, which testimony has suggested was in Hernandezâs possession before Lloydâs death, was found in the woods near Lloydâs body. The .22 caliber purchased in Florida is not the .45 caliber Glock used to kill Lloyd, which police never recovered, authorities have said. Hernandez is on trial for murder and two illegal firearms charges in the June 2013 slaying.
On April 11, 2013, a Bank of America teller who works at a branch in California testified Monday, Hernandez moved $15,000 from his account into an account belonging to Oscar Hernandez Jr., of Belle Glade. Oscar Hernandez is of no relation to the former Patriots tight end.
Earlier this year, Oscar Hernandez Jr. pleaded guilty in a federal gun trafficking case that results from weapons police found when they investigated the Lloyd slaying.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives contacted the True Value Hardware store in June 2013, after investigators recovered the .22 in the woods by Lloydâs body. Heidi Lakatos, who works at the True Value Hardware store, produced trace data that revealed she sold the .22 Jiminez firearm to a man named Gion Jackson on April 16, 2013.
