Duluth native Greg Anderson, in a Summit Racing Pro Stock Camaro, opened qualifying Friday in the 31st Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals by placing fifth midway through the first day at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. The four-time champion recorded a 6.593-second, 209.23 mph on his first attempt before improving to a 6.582-second time with a 210.54 mph top speed in the second session. Teammate Jason Line qualified ninth at 209.07 mph.
"We didn't make bad runs today, we just didn't get the speed we were looking for," Anderson said in a statement. "We are in test mode trying to get these Summit Racing Camaros figured out, and will be until we do so."
