Kate Berg and Cianna Selbitschka had 17 kills apiece to lead No. 19 Minnesota Duluth to a 3-2 (16-25, 28-26, 12-25, 25-23, 15-13) Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball victory over Sioux Falls Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Berg and Selbitschka also had 18 and 14 digs, respectively, while Sydney Lanoue and Madison Gordon chipped in 15 digs apiece.
Grace Daak led up front with six blocks and Gordon paced the offense with 53 set assists for the Bulldogs (9-3 overall, 2-2 NSIC).
Averey Yaksich had 24 kills and Tiarose Nagami had 26 digs to lead the Cougars (7-5, 2-2).
It doesn’t get any easier for the Bulldogs as they continue NSIC action by taking on No. 5 Southwest Minnesota State (11-1, 3-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Marshall, Minnesota.
No. 20 St. Cloud State (9-3, 4-0) stunned the Mustangs with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-19 victory Friday in Marshall.
Peacocks rally to keep Bulldogs winless
Katrina Kazluski scored on an assist from Katie Samuels at 66:25 as Upper Iowa stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 NSIC victory over winless Minnesota Duluth in women’s soccer action at Pattison Field in Fayette, Iowa.
UMD junior Lauren Singstock opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 23:17 and it would stay that way for almost 40 minutes before Toni Powsey scored the equalizer at 62:09 on an assist by Leah Willenbring.
Kazluski gave the Peacocks a 2-1 lead only three minutes later and it would stay that way as Natalie Rudrud had four saves for Upper Iowa (5-0 overall, 3-0 NSIC).
Sophia Grenz had six saves for UMD (0-6, 0-3), which now will seek its first win at 1 p.m. Sunday at Winona State (2-3, 1-2).
