Monte Mayberry had a double-double and Northwestern upended top-seeded Cameron 78-68 in a Wisconsin Division 3 high school boys basketball regional final Saturday night at Cameron.

Mayberry had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers (18-7), who advanced to a Sectional 1 semifinal next Thursday against an opponent to be determined.

Cameron (20-2) beat Northwestern 75-74 during the regular season.

Eveleth-Gilbert 98, Bigfork 64

Carter Mavec poured in 30 points and Jake Sickel surpassed 1,000 career points in the Golden Bears’ nonconference road win Friday night.

Jeff Lorenz paced the Spartans to the nonconference win with 24 points to surpass 1,000 for his varsity career.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pequot Lakes 62, Esko 58

Sister Maci and Kelsi Martini made 10 free throws apiece to help hand the Eskomos their first defeat of the season Friday night in Pequot Lakes.

Maci Martini had a game-high 24 points for Pequot Lakes.

Brenna Stark and Jayden Karppinen led Esko (8-1) with 21 and 20 points, respectively.

BOYS HOCKEY

Duluth Denfeld 7, International Falls 1

Simon Davidson had one goal and four assists to lead the Hunters over the Broncos in nonconference action at Essentia Duluth Heritage Center.

Denfeld totaled 55 shots on goal in improving to 4-1-1.

VMIB 3, North Shore 0

Ryan Scherf scored two of the Blue Devils’ three first-period goals and Ian Kangas came up with 25 saves in the nonconference win at Silver Bay.
