St. Scholastica's Emil Book Bratbak won the inaugural race at the Grand Avenue Nordic Ski Center on Saturday in Duluth.

Racers competed in a 10-kilometer freestyle, with Bratbak placing first in 24 minutes, 11 seconds. Bratbak, an NCAA qualifier last season, won his second collegiate race and it was his first freestyle victory.

The Saints' Gus Schatzlein placed second in 24:23 and CSS' Nick Matelich was third in 24:25. Bjorn Larson was the fourth Saint in the top 10, placing ninth in 24:45.

Racing continues Sunday with 1.4-kilometer classic sprint races with qualifying beginning at 9:30 a.m.
