Prep report: Vekich leads Greenway past Hermantown

In a match featuring a pair of Section 7AA hopefuls, sophomore Claire Vekich amassed 20 kills and just as many digs to power Greenway to a 3-1 high school volleyball win over Hermantown on Tuesday night in Coleraine.

Vekich added nine blocks for the Raiders in the 25-12, 25-18, 26-28, 25-21 win, while Mikhara Anderson chipped in 10 kills and 20 digs. Erin Gustason finished with 36 set assists.

The Hawks were led by Maddy Foster (15 kills) and Rachel Menzel (22 assists).

Carlton 3, Esko 0

A night after sweeping Class AAA Duluth East, the Bulldogs did the same to the Class AA Eskomos, winning 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 in Esko.

Brynne Mickle highlighted the offense with 27 assists, while her sister, Abby Mickle, totaled eight kills for Class A Carlton.

Superior 3, Ashland 0

Winona State commit Caleigh Jensen paced the host Spartans with 17 kills, 12 digs, five ace serves and five blocks in a Lake Superior Conference sweep (25-11, 25-11, 25-14).


Duluth Denfeld 7, Ashland 1

Keegan Chastey factored into six of the Hunters' goals — a hat trick and three assists — as Denfeld won the LSC affair at Public Schools Stadium.

First-half goals from Sam Mark and Tori Thorson led the host Hilltoppers to the LSC victory.
