College women's hockey: Saints advance in NCHA playoffs
St. Scholastica scored two third-period goals and Lexi Thomeczak posted a 20-save shutout in the Saints' 2-0 victory over Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena, sending CSS on to the NCHA semifinal round.
After Thomeczek and Concordia goaltender Breanna Thomson (36 saves) battled through two scoreless periods, the Saints' Rachel Anderson scored at the 9:19 mark of the third on one of five St. Scholastica power plays.
Giorgia Battisti scored an empty-net goal with 15 seconds remaining to seal the win.
St. Scholastica (16-6-5), which had tied Concordia (12-13-2) 2-2 in Friday's opening game, will play Lake Forest in the NCHA semifinals.
Wis.-Eau Claire 7,
The host Blugolds peppered UWS with 52 shots on goal en route to clinching the WIAC semifinal in two games.
Jaedyn Walz scored three goals — two in the second period — to give her nine on the season and boost Eau Claire (17-6-4) into the conference title game.
The Blugolds were 4-for-13 on power plays as UWS took 16 penalties for 32 minutes.
Amanda Sergent scored both goals for the Yellowjackets, whose season ended at 14-11-2.
