Former Minnesota Duluth baseball player Jimmy Heck has signed a professional contract for the 2018 season with the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League.

Heck, an outfielder and second baseman from St. Louis Park, Minn., played last season for the Salina Stockade of the American Association, batting .258 with 12 doubles, four triples, a home run and 24 RBIs in 310 at-bats.

After earning All-America honors as a senior at UMD in 2016, Heck's pro career started after graduation with the Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League, where he hit .426, with seven doubles, two triples, four home runs and 24 RBIs, helping the Saguaros go 17-1 in games he played in, including 17 wins in a row as they won the league championship. After the Pecos League concluded, he played seven games with Joliet of the Frontier League, hitting .313.
