College baseball: UWS falls in first of two

A day after allowing 17 runs in its season opener, Wisconsin-Superior's pitching struggled against Oberlin (Ohio) College on Monday.

The Yellowjackets lost 12-3 and allowed 14 hits in the first game of a doubleheader at Tucson, Ariz. The second game was not completed in time for this edition.

Brian Carney had two hits, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and four RBIs to lead Oberlin (6-3). Amari Newman tacked on three hits, while Sam Harris and Brendan Mapes each had two hits and two runs scored.

UWS (0-2) recorded just six hits and one earned run off Zachary Steer.
