The 33rd Brewhouse Triathlon is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Island Lake in Duluth, with past champions in the men's and women's races returning.

Two-time men's champion Josh Blankenheim is the favorite in the men's long course race while Elaine Nelson has won the women's long course title in each of her last three Brewhouse appearances.

In the short course races, Bettina Keppers is chasing a third Brewhouse women's title. Mike Ward, who won five of the last six races on the men's side, is also entered.

The Brewhouse long course, or Olympic-distance, is a 1,640-yard swim, 24.8-mile bike ride and 6.2-mile run. The short, also called the sprint, is an 820-yard swim, 12.4-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run.

The Rootbeer Kids Triathlon will follow the Brewhouse at 1:30 p.m. at the Minnesota Power Island Lake beach.
