3-run homer pushes Huskies to win

Cody Asche clocked a three-run homer in the top of the seventh as the Duluth Huskies rallied for their second straight Northwoods League win Sunday, a 7-4 victory over the host Willmar Stingers.

The Huskies (2-2) trailed 3-2 going into the seventh. Barrett Serrato and Kyle Roliard each singled to start the frame, and came home on Asche's home run -- his second in as many nights.

Tyler Albright and Robbie Collier each had three hits for the Huskies. Sam Briend picked up the win in relief against the Stingers (1-3).

The Duluth Huskies scored three runs in the eighth inning Saturday night to seal their first Northwoods League win of the season in beating Willmar 5-1 in Willmar, Minn.

The Huskies (1-2) led 2-1 through seven innings before adding three insurance runs. Willmar (1-2), a first-year franchise, won its inaugural game 11-5 Friday over St. Cloud.

Third baseman Cody Asche of Nebraska had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs for the Huskies. Mark Threlkeld of Louisiana Tech and Barrett Serrato of Purdue also had two hits each. Ben Hughes of St. Olaf College threw 7.2 innings and allowed five hits to earn the pitching win.
