The La Crosse Loggers beat the Duluth Huskies 8-5 on Monday to complete a two-game Northwoods League series sweep at Wade Stadium in Duluth.
The Loggers (7-7) used a five-run second inning to pull away early. The second began with an error, walk and balk by the Huskies (7-7), leading to the first run for La Crosse. A second error with two outs late in the inning resulted in the fourth and fifth runs for the visitors.
The Huskies — who finished with four errors — out-hit the Loggers, and were led by catcher James Free going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Centerfielder Milan Walla, batting eighth, also had a double and drove in two runs.
The Huskies will remain at home through Thursday this week to host the Waterloo Bucks for a four-game series at Wade Stadium. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6:35 p.m. with a doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday at noon and 6:35 p.m. The series concludes at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.
