Pointers favored to repeat, UWS seventh
Wisconsin-Stevens Point is favored to defend its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball title, according to the preseason poll of league sports information directors released Thursday.
The Pointers received four first-place votes. Whitewater was second and had three first-place votes and River Falls was third and had the remaining two first-place votes.
La Crosse was fourth followed by Platteville, Oshkosh, Superior, Eau Claire and Stout.
UWS has had back-to-back 15-12 seasons -- the best two-year victory total since earning 31 wins from 1999-2001. The Yellowjackets have also won a WIAC tournament road game two straight years but graduated all-time leading scorer Jake Smith.
