For two decades, "Spirit of the Lights" on Duluth's Park Point drew viewers from around the world. After four years at Glensheen, the lights are being let loose.
The event also included the dedication of a new shell in honor of Walter Hoover, a Duluthian who won the prestigious Diamond Sculls at the Henley Royal Regatta in London 100 years ago.
Tom Mackay was an almost lifelong Park Point resident and former Vista Fleet captain known for his friendship, his kindness and his knowledge of the geography of the bay.
As they chanted on the bridge, they stopped traffic and blocked the only way first responders have to get to people on Park Point who may need emergency help.
