This is in response to Duluth City Councilor Jay Fosle's comment that "it's communistic" to tell people what they can or cannot do with their homes ("300-foot rental rule survives," Oct. 28).
The continuance of the so-called 300-foot rule may not be the solution to neighborhood problems related to student housing, but it is, in effect, no different than a zoning law used to protect a neighborhood from being used for anything other than family dwellings.
Just because I own my house, I do not have the right to open a bakery or a tavern in it. The rules are written to govern and to protect.
