For many years, I have thought of myself as a Democrat. This year, I am making it clear that I will be supporting a Republican for state representative. It's still hard for me to think of myself voting for a Republican in a year where I will be replacing so many members of a party that has once again failed us. However, I will be voting for Ryan Stauber for my state representative over long-seated incumbent Tom Huntley. I do not believe that one party was responsible for the mess at almost all levels of government. I believe the blame falls on all the people in government.

Huntley has let down Duluth with his failure to support the Mike Jaros' bill forcing a vote on the bonding for the red plan. As a Minnesotan and United States citizen, I believe we should be able to vote on this proposal since our tax money will be funding it.

Huntley failed to supply the city with the money necessary from the state to clean up Lake Superior and Duluth's sewer overflow problem. Huntley failed to provide the oversight on the environment, public safety or education that we really need in our state.

Stauber may not be the most experienced candidate, but at least he brings new ideas to the table. He seems extremely intent on helping Duluth from our past mistakes and improving our beautiful state. I may not believe in the party he belongs to, nor its message, but I certainly believe in him.
