One of Duluth's most endearing goodwill ambassadors said his final goodbye recently with the passing of Joe Berini. "Mr. Sports in the Twin Ports" manned the game clock at Griggs Field for
50 years and for decades at Public Schools Stadium as well as Romano Gymnasium. The longtime official timekeeper who kept the hands moving accurately was Duluth's version of Father Time. He was an ordinary man who did extraordinary things his whole life: a career teacher, coach, counselor and so much more.
When meeting a person for the first time, lefty Joe would hand them a little white card. It read, "If the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-
handed people are in their right minds." Compliments of Joe Berini your left-handed friend from Duluth. So many friends over so many years for gentleman Joe.
Joseph Robert Berini ... not your average Joe.
