Last year conservatives in Congress took what could have been a basic tax cut for regular people and turned it into a budget-buster by letting the wealthy keep enough to add new yachts to their fleets. Now, as predicted, the deficit has ballooned back to Great Recession levels.
To balance the lost tax revenue elites now keep for themselves, conservatives could try to cut spending on programs that benefit regular people. (Their leaders already have targeted Medicare and Social Security.) But more likely they will borrow the money and make future taxpayers - today's young people - pay it back.
If extra toys for the elites is important to you, vote conservative on Nov. 6. If you're feeling cheated, vote liberal.
