Eric Enberg of the Duluth chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby was correct when he wrote that taxing carbon and returning the proceeds to the public would be useful. (Enberg wrote the Sept. 26 "Local View" column, headlined, "Carbon pricing will induce innovation, too.")
But the Citizens Climate Lobby's support for so-called "renewables" is shortsighted and damaging the environment because these inefficient, heavily subsidized, deadly, short-lived, carbon-dependent, environment-damaging, storm-fragile, difficult-to-recycle solar farms (that displace flora and fauna wherever they are located), and wind farms (that kill millions of birds and bats every year) are far from "green." In no positive way can wind or solar even compete with highly efficient, lightly subsidized, super-safe, long-lived, storm-impervious, environment-friendly, emission-free nuclear power.
Unfortunately, green organizations like the Citizens Climate Lobby have not done the science. Worse, they repeatedly decline to view free presentations that critically evaluate wind and solar farms versus nuclear power. This willful ignorance is regrettable in itself, but worse is damaging the environment the Citizens Climate Lobby says it wants to protect.
For the third time, I offer such a presentation to the chapter at no charge at the time and place of its convenience.
