What possible motivation led to placing as the lead story of the News Tribune's Jan. 17 Local News section, "Police chief's brother arrested"?

Chief Gordon Ramsay's brother, Charles Ramsay, an attorney who practices out of the Twin Cities, and was arrested for possession of cocaine in Winona County, Minn. What was the newsworthiness in the Twin Ports area other then embarrassing and bringing more anguish to the chief and his family in Duluth?

Any family can have a member who abuses drugs. Coping with that is tough enough without seeing it in a major headline in the local newspaper.

To drag the chief, a man dedicated to decreasing drug abuse in our community, through this mud showed extremely poor taste. To make the story a major headline item in Duluth, when it merely rated mention in Twin Cities' newspapers, showed a complete lack of discretion on the part of News Tribune management.

The News Tribune is never going to be able to compete with the National Inquirer, so it could please stop trying, and it could concentrate on being a worthy community newspaper.
