Oh, my! In response to the Dec. 2 Local View column, “It’s time for Washington to make America whole again,” I must say: How disingenuous.
First, the writer, longtime Duluth-area businessman Tom Wheeler, said he wrote on his presidential ballot, “none of the above.” Then he attacked the Democrats’ presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and praised President-elect Donald Trump.
He also disparaged President Barack Obama, who inherited a dismal economy. Trump will inherit an economy that is growing and a health care system that has millions fewer Americans without health insurance.
Wheeler discussed a do-nothing Congress, yet neglected to mention Republicans openly stated that their mission was to make sure to obstruct any policy President Obama proposed.
Wheeler claimed, “the people have spoken,” but he didn’t mention that Clinton had 2.5 million more people vote for her than did Trump.
Wheeler ended with, “United we stand, divided we fall.” But Trump hasn’t given any indication (not in his speech in Cincinnati or on Twitter) that he believes that sentiment.
