I just heard on public radio that another handful of wealthy Americans has signed Warren Buffett’s pledge to give the bulk of their wealth to humanitarian causes. I know this sounds wonderful as a sound bite.
But in thinking about this a bit more, I had another reaction. Rather than funding so many world humanitarian needs, perhaps these folks could pay their fair share of taxes to the American government, and America’s low-income and middle-class citizens could benefit from their abundance. Education, infrastructure, medical care and the list could go on and on of things that could benefit.
