If I were running for office in Minnesota, the one phrase I would never want to hear uttered about me would be, "more of the same." I certainly have said it often enough in reference to many candidates out there. And I know I'm not alone; a lot of us are quite simply fed up with the taxes and the enormous budget and the seeming inability of lawmakers to do anything to fix it.
So I propose less of the same. I propose thinking creatively.
A group called Profit Minnesota has figured out a way to generate $630 million in new state revenue every year -- without raising taxes. The group proposes installing electronic formats of games like bingo, pull tabs and video lottery in licensed bars and restaurants. I think this is a terrific solution and definitely one that all of our representatives should support in our state Capitol.
We need to let all candidates for office know they need to support creative measures to fix our budget crisis. I'm glad there are groups out there like Profit Minnesota working to fix our state.
