Reader's view: Vote no on raising taxes for city and school district

Here are four words for Election Day on Nov. 8: No, no, no and no. Vote no to raising taxes for parks. And vote no three times for more money for the School Board.

The city of Duluth has been spending money needlessly. Instead of raising taxes for parks and libraries, how about we don't blacktop fire station parking lots and no new vehicles for one year? That'd save

$5 million to $10 million, I'd bet.

The School Board, too, has wasted too much money. I see it daily.

Now for candidates: If you were a city councilor before you are a part of the problem, not the solution, and I don't need to sit down and have a cup of coffee. School Board people running who want you to vote for an increase in funding just lost my vote. It's time for new people. When a candidate answers that it makes no difference being endorsed by unions, boy, are they wrong.

Election Day is Nov. 8. Get out and vote. And when you do, look for the blank lines beneath the candidates' names. You can write in a name of your choosing. Those people running do not need to be elected. If they are, you will have four more years of higher taxes, fewer services, the need to call other councilors with problems because yours doesn't have time for you, and the same old city and School Board spending.
