In the past several years, there have been notable successes for Independent School District 709, but it seems the bad news sometimes outweighs the good. The upcoming election gives everyone a chance for input on ISD 709's future.
I hope voters in District 1 will consider voting for Kurt Kuehn.
Kuehn's mission of making district information more accessible and increasing transparency is important when considering the district must involve more stakeholders and attract families back to ISD 709.
I also support Kuehn's position that purchase offers on vacant buildings be carefully considered by the whole board with none automatically dismissed. The policy forbidding a sale to competitors is too rigid when these empty buildings have been draining money from existing schools for years.
I also like that Kuehn is not endorsed by any political entities. Many big decisions in the past seem to have been decided by groups endorsed by one party. I do not believe one party makes bad decisions while another makes good ones. What I believe is schools never benefit from looking at the issues from only one perspective. A broadened outlook would help move our schools forward and result in more good news about our schools.
