Incivility at the DECC. Yes, there was, and one of the most uncivil things was U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar refusing to shake Republican challenger Chip Cravaack's outstretched hand at the outset of their candidate forum Oct. 19. How uncivil was that? And why didn't any news organization report it?
The News Tribune's report ("Minnesota not-so-nice," Sept. 20) quoted an attendee saying there were "a lot of Tea Party people here." It was probably true, but do Tea Party people look or talk different from other people? No one said there were union people there, but I would believe there were.
Speaking for myself, I feel betrayed by Oberstar. I voted for him in the past, reluctantly, because, by and large, Democrats are pro-
abortion and for some form of gun control. But I believed him until he voted for the health bill. Supporters can start writing and say I am full of it, but I believe abortion is in the health bill. If Oberstar is so pro-life, why wasn't one line put into the thousands of pages saying, "The federal government will not fund abortions, period." Too simple.
