Reading the News Tribune's Aug. 2 endorsement of state Rep. Tom Huntley (Our View: "Huntley remains DFL's best bet in District 7A") caused me to become more concerned about my future here in Duluth.
I've spent a long time working for my degree but find there is little place for me to use it here. Knowing that University of Minnesota Duluth students graduate with the highest rate of student loan debt of any public school in the entire state, I want to know what's going to be out there for me. How will I succeed? There has been little legislation to help us students; and without jobs to go to, we are unable to repay our debts let alone create and keep a steady income.
It seems Huntley's main focus long has been health care. Will he now turn and fight to bring new jobs to the area? I'm not so sure.
I've heard Brandon Clokey speak and have heard of his fight for change in our schools and communities. Already his voice is speaking volumes to me about more jobs, better health care and fewer strains on those of us who can ill afford it.
Wake up, 7A! We need this change. We need Brandon Clokey as our next state representative.
