Reader's view: Trump treatment shouldn't shock Republicans

I found it interesting that a letter in the News Tribune Feb. 4 had the gall to condemn disrespecting President Donald Trump when, for eight years, all Republicans did was disrespect President Barack Obama with accusations and disparaging remarks.

I found it interesting that a letter in the News Tribune Feb. 4 had the gall to condemn disrespecting President Donald Trump when, for eight years, all Republicans did was disrespect President Barack Obama with accusations and disparaging remarks.

The hypocrisy of the modern conservative movement is, at best, short-sighted. The hate and divisiveness in the letter may as well have come from the Republican Party, its actions and antiquated ideology. When you live and breathe the 24-hour Fox News cycle, you lose sight of reality and regurgitate misinformed opinions.

I didn't vote for either of the main-party candidates, and I'm proud to say it.

If you want unity and respect, then treat others the way you want to be treated.

When the alt right, KKK, and hate groups support Trump, and he does very little, if anything, to distance himself or disavow those groups, what is that called? Is it called conservative tolerance or hate?

I have nothing but respect for my country, and I'm proud to be a citizen. I hope President Trump is successful and improves the quality of life for all Americans. Until then, I will remain skeptical.

I will admit, although I can't now find the editorial cartoon that compared Trump's inauguration to the Pearl Harbor attack, it was a deplorable comparison and cartoon, as the Feb. 4 letter stated. But it was to be expected after how the right treated Obama.
