I am a retired director of Systems and Programming for St Louis County. During my tenure, an employee I supervised was disciplined for working on his campaign for a local office from his county office. There were several reasons for discipline. Employees are paid to do the work of the county. The county is cast in a bad light when taxpayer money is used for personal gain. County emails, when delivered, are obviously from the county and appear to voice the opinion of the county. As the News Tribune pointed out, it is against county policy.
County Commissioner Pete Stauber, who's running for Congress in the 8th District, should face the same discipline from the county that other employees have faced ("Stauber mum on emails, but others not," Sept. 11).
