With regard to hunting wolves, in 2011, there were only 88 verified livestock-loss claims in Minnesota, impacting less than 2 percent of beef producers in wolf range. The random killing of non-problem wolves actually can increase conflicts as packs destabilize and remaining members seek any available food source for survival.

Even the state's own expert, L. David Mech, stated a wolf hunting and trapping season is not a solution to conflicts between livestock and wolves.

Trapping is inhumane and cruel; the animals suffer greatly. State experts agree that wolf depredation of livestock doesn't impact agriculture in a meaningful way. A harsh winter has more impact on deer populations than wolves.

It's a shame the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota Legislature and the governor are willing to behave so recklessly.

Please, others, stand up and fight for these magnificent animals. They deserve to be left alone and live in peace.
