I panic at the thought of any copper-nickel mines polluting our parks, surrounding rivers and streams, and, eventually Lake Superior.
In the early 1970s my young son was having bloody noses and his doctor advised using a humidifier in his room at night. We were spewing a mist of Lake Superior water in the direction of his bed every night. About this time it was discovered that taconite tailings were being dumped into Lake Superior from Silver Bay, which was poisoning the lake water with asbestos-like fibers that could cause cancer. I was sure I had killed my kid!
Please don't let heavy-industry, sulfide-rock mining destroy our clean water. Let's stick with the tourist industry.
