Can the people of the 8th Congressional District afford to re-elect Jim Oberstar?

No!

Reasons include his vote to insure up to $300 billion in new loans, what I considered a mortgage bailout; his vote for the $787 billion stimulus, which contributed to 9.6 percent unemployment; his vote for cap and trade, which will kill Northland jobs; and his vote for a health care bill 68 percent of Americans don't want, a bill that could allow tax-funded abortions. Oberstar supported cuts to Medicare Advantage. He can be blamed for tax increases for my senior mother.

Where has Oberstar been? He's unavailable to constituents. He shows up for photo-ops and public relations fly-bys. We're waiting for town hall meetings. We deserve better -- for example, people waiting four years for the PolyMet project, people waiting four years for the Nashwauk steel plant, and the people of Duluth waiting to become a city of 100,000 again.

The only thing we don't seem to wait for is Oberstar's "porkulous" bike paths to nowhere.

On Nov. 2, change is coming. There's a new choice and a new direction, and his name is Chip Cravaack. He's a retired Navy commander, an honorable choice, a needed choice.
