What does it mean to respect the flag? What does our flag represent?
Our flag represents "liberty and justice for all."
It means freedom of expression without persecution. It means respect for all people. It means welcome to people of all nationalities, ethnicities, and religious persuasions. It means showing special care and concern for those who are marginalized. It means fostering health and wholeness for all. It means excellent public education for all children. It means situating individual rights and freedoms within the larger and prior context of the well-being of the common good. It means living in balance and partnership with all nations of the world and promoting peace and justice on a global scale.
And it means relentlessly and vociferously challenging and rejecting all forces that undermine any of these tenets.
