Rep. Carolyn McCarthy authored numerous anti-gun bills, including an assault-weapons ban, even though she doesn't seem able to identify things like the barrel shroud her bill says makes a gun more dangerous. She also doesn't seem to like large clips because she's never heard of a combat reload and two guns.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein calls magazines "clips" and civilian semi-automatic firearms "assault weapons."

Next is President Obama, who has been afforded Secret Service protection since 2007 when he was still a U.S. senator from Illinois. His wife, Michelle, as well as members of his family, also have been provided Secret Service protection. His children attend private school in the Washington, D.C., area and are provided Secret Service protection.

Finally, there's Vice President Joe Biden. He doesn't seem to know an AR15 is easier for a smaller person to control than a double-barreled shotgun or that its collapsible stock makes it easier to maneuver in a house. He also advises women, including his wife, to violate local ordinances by shooting in town.

The last two have spent millions of your tax dollars touring the country and filming commercials in support of their apparent plan to make us all defenseless. If it requires that much hype, the message is wrong. And they want to tell us what guns they will let us have to protect our families?

A legal commentary addressing the fundamental rights recognized in the Second Amendment was written by St. George Tucker, an attorney and military officer during the American Revolution. He wrote: "The right of self-defense is the first law of nature. Wherever the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction."
