Reader's view: Take time to personally thank our veterans

With the recent passing of Veterans Day and the anniversary of the Battle at Gettysburg, we need to remember this hallowed ground we take for granted is only thanks in part to our forefathers who served in all branches of the military.

And remember this holiday season that there are many little simple things you can do when you see a man or woman in uniform. Thank them for serving. Pay it forward by buying them lunch or coffee. When you see a Korean War veteran or someone in a hat, let's be sure to always thank them. If you have children, teach them this as a manner of respect.

Let us remember that we could not live here and have all of our civic rights without our veterans.

This holiday season, as a family, find a way to send some holiday cards to those serving; remember they are overseas and have no family with them during the holiday season while we are here with ours.

Some of the most dedicated people you can hire are veterans. Let me personally thank them all for their years of service. Without them we could not be free.
