More than 100 of the top appellate lawyers in Minnesota evaluated the candidates and publicized their conclusions. This diverse group of lawyers has both the unique qualifications and the professional responsibility to candidly assess the judges before whom they appear. They overwhelmingly supported the re-election of the two incumbent justices.
With very rare exceptions, attorneys who run against incumbent appellate judges are not as qualified or as suited to the office as the incumbents. All one needs to run for appellate judge is a valid law license and a check for the filing fee. Experienced appellate lawyers support both incumbents.
Perhaps someday there will be a challenger who is more qualified than incumbent judges. But that is simply not the case this year.
