U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber betrayed his oath to uphold the Constitution, which says Congress controls spending, when he voted in the minority against a U.S. House resolution to overturn President Donald Trump's national-emergency declaration. Trump had declared a fake emergency in an attempt to keep a campaign promise to his base to build a border wall. With his vote, Stauber proved himself just another enabler of the president.
Stauber also voted against a bipartisan background-check bill that was a simple common-sense attempt to rein in our national gun-violence epidemic. The National Rifle Association was a big donor to Stauber's campaign, according to opensecrets.org, and the gun industry, it seems, is more important to him than the lives lost to gun violence.
Both votes showed a lack of integrity.
