In response to the July 22 letter, "New ATV trails will destroy natural resources," first, ask any resort, hotel or restaurant owner who spends the most money at their establishments, generating huge tax dollars. It's someone with a motor on their toy.
All-terrain vehicle riding is like skiing, hiking, biking, snowmobiling or any other sport. We ATVers pay fees like everyone else who uses state property responsibly to enjoy their sport.
ATV trails in this state are sorely lacking, yet we have one of the largest ATV registrations per capita in the country. It is way beyond time that the state steps up and supports ATV users with a real trail system that makes sense for everyone.
If the true wilderness is your thing, the federal government closed off the northeastern corner of Minnesota decades ago for you. It's called the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Please feel free to use it. In the meantime, the rest of the state needs a real ATV trail system.
